A Ted Todd wood floor is made for everyday life. Regular, appropriate care helps preserve its colour, texture and finish as it develops character over time.
The finish forms the working surface of the floor. It provides protection and establishes the sheen, tone and feel of the timber. Different finishes have individual care requirements, which is why we have developed four dedicated Ted Todd Floor Care Systems.

Why use a Ted Todd Floor Care System?
Our collections include lacquered, hardened-oil, natural-oil and hardwax-oil finishes. We also make white-toned floors that require specialist products to support their pale colour.
Each finish responds differently to cleaning and periodic maintenance. Some household cleaners contain detergents, waxes or oils that can leave a residue, alter the sheen or affect the appearance of the surface. A product designed for one type of finish may also be unsuitable for another.
Ted Todd Floor Care Systems make it easier to select products that are compatible with your floor. They support regular cleaning and provide the appropriate products for deeper cleaning, polishing or replenishment when required.
Using the correct system helps maintain the protection applied during manufacture and preserves the natural character of the timber.
Which Floor Care System does my floor need?
Your floor’s finish determines the correct system:
- Care System 1 is designed for lacquered and hardened-oil floors.
- Care System 2 is designed for natural-oil and hardwax-oil floors.
- Care System 3 is designed for white-toned floors with a lacquered or hardened-oil finish.
- Care System 4 is designed for white-toned floors with a natural-oil or hardwax-oil finish.
The recommended Care System is listed on the product page and technical specification for your floor. If you are unsure which finish you have, speak to your Ted Todd retailer or contact our team before applying a care product.
Regular wood floor care
Small, consistent steps will help keep your wood floor looking its best:
- Remove dust and loose grit with a soft brush or suitable vacuum attachment.
- Wipe up spills promptly.
- Use protective pads beneath furniture legs.
- Place entrance mats in areas where grit and moisture are likely to be carried inside.
- Clean with the regular cleaner from the recommended Ted Todd Floor Care System.
- Follow the dilution, application and drying instructions provided with each product.
Cleaning frequency will depend on the level of foot traffic and the way the room is used. Busy entrances, kitchens and shared living spaces may need attention more regularly than quieter rooms.
Periodic maintenance
Over time, your floor may benefit from additional maintenance. Lacquered and hardened-oil floors can be refreshed using the appropriate polish. Natural-oil and hardwax-oil surfaces may require deeper cleaning and a replenishing oil.
White-toned floors use specialist white care products. These are designed to maintain the pale appearance of the finish during regular cleaning and maintenance.
Always follow the instructions supplied with the individual product. Test treatments on a discreet area if the age, finish or previous maintenance history of the floor is uncertain.
